A drought of 50 days comes to an end to the relief of snow-starved resorts.
Snow has finally started to fall across the Alps after an unseasonably dry spell threatened to derail the ski season as snow cover in some French and Italian resorts had been reduced to artificial snow, rock and grass.Resorts in Les Gets, Morzine, Megève and La Clusaz were most affected by the drought to the extent that French authorities threatened to turn off the water supply to their snow cannon due to overuse. No sooner had the ban been announced snow suddenly start to fall with more expected over the weekend, providing a much needed lifeline and some superb piste and powder conditions. Not all resorts were affected by the drought with Val d'Isere enjoying its best start to a season in 25 years while Tignes, Alpe d'Huez and Serre Chevalier getting by comfortably.Source: The Telegraph
