We are currently recruiting for an individual with a flair for cooking, good organisational skills  and a big interest in the outdoors to join us this summer as our Staff Host Cook/ Standby Chalet Chef.

Staff Host/Cook: you would be joining a team of about 22 people in the village of Corvara in the Dolomites, where we run two Alpine Chalets and a number of self-catering apartments. You would be based in a guesthouse where the majority of our staff live, and six days a week you would provide a two course evening meal to staff members of the village team who are not working in either of the two chalets that evening. Numbers will be between 8 and 12 each evening. You will be in charge of the domestic management of the Chalet communal areas ,kitchen, dining room and downstairs loo. You would carry out a weekly stock take and make a food order each week. You would maintain some simple budget accounts and deal with other administrative tasks as they arise. 
As the Host of this Chalet we would expect you to be warm, friendly and caring, and to take a keen interest in the well-being of the rest of the staff team, your teammates, and maintain a good relationship with our landlady and her family who also live in the building. We would therefore expect you take on a manager’s perspective when it comes to the upkeep of the property and to remind the team to be respectful of the family, not to be noisy, to maintain high levels of cleanliness in the communal areas and in their bedrooms, and to report any damages throughout the season which might occur in the chalet. This would require you to follow and promote our ground rules in the house for all of the team to abide by, especially where cleanliness, tidiness and noise levels are concerned. 
Hut-to-Hut changeovers: As cooking for the staff team would take relatively little time each day we also ask the Staff Host to manage the Changeovers of our Hut-to-Hut guests in Corvara. We have five rooms in the building which are dedicated in the chalet to our Hut-to-Hut guests, who typically stay one night with us at the start and end of their trip. You would be responsible for the cleaning of these when they are vacated, and preparing them for our new arrivals, with help from another member of the village team each day. 

Standby Chalet Chef: If one of the chalet host chef couples of the two chalets we run in Corvara were injured or taken ill we would ask you to help in the chalet affected, until they were fit again. At such times we would ask other members of the team to take over your Staff Host cooking duties. This can happen at a moment’s notice and we would need you to be extremely flexible on such occasions. 
Guest interaction on Organised Walks & in our chalets: to fully enjoy this experience we would also want you to spend time with our guests, and it is certainly possible to manage your time to join one or two of our Organised Walks each week with other members of our staff team, as well as socialising with our guests in the chalets. A love of the outdoors and in particular hill walking, climbing or other outdoor activities would be essential to enjoying this experience to the full.


You would need to be a great cook or chef with a passion for food and an interest in sharing this with others.

You would need to be able to cater for special dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free etc.), so flexibility and an ability to adapt your dishes is essential.
The job requires good organisational skills and forward planning, as well as an ability to think on your feet and adapt your menus at the last minute.

You would need to be a warm, engaging personality and an excellent team player who enjoys looking after people and who would relish creating a home from home atmosphere in the chalet. 

You will need to have a British National Insurance Number & Bank Account.

Qualifications / Certificates Needed
  • A current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • A current First Aid certificate
