Description

Looking to recruit a General Manager/ Chief Operating Officer to work directly for the Managing Director to run our expanding ski chalet business.

This is an opportunity for a charismatic, intelligent and highly motivated person to enter a successful and profitable company and take over the ground-work that the founders have put in.

The business has gone from an initial small hotel business to a web-based ski chalet provider over a 20-year period, with a quadrupling of turnover in the last 4 years. We now want to concentrate on asset acquisition whilst handing the day-to-day running over to a new GM/COO who will hopefully, with time, become a fully-fledged business partner.

You would be required to take over the operational aspects of our company via the existing middle-management team to include oversight of staff, recruiting, catering, cleaning, ordering, property maintenance, daily accounting, sales, website development, marketing and a host of smaller but essential functions that a medium-size business needs in order to run.

For the right candidate, we would look to them taking responsibility, with time, for the strategic growth and direction of the company along with other director-level decisions such as negotiation of contracts, seeking new business opportunities and cash flow and accounting forecasts.

This would allow the re-organisation of the company from it's current owner-led structure to a more board-level, director-led structure that it will need to adopt as it shifts from it's entrepreneurial stage to a stand-alone, compliant and audited company that can then be scaled to growth in the future or sold to either a third-party or to the management team and employees.

All options remain open

Your background should be a proven track record in running a company and dealing with employees. We are a people business and you have to be able to motivate and relate to a wide range of employees from young seasonaires in their first job all the way up to class-leading chefs with many decades of experience.

The current middle-management team needs a clear and popular leader who can motivate them and help them to achieve their goals. An organisational system needs to be put in place to replace the current organic and the somewhat disjointed way things have evolved over a number of years to increase the efficiency and accountability of those tasked with running the junior members of the team

If you see long-hours, problematic customers and staff and an uncertain outlook after Brexit this is not for you. If you see an opportunity to get in at the right time in a growing business, to enjoy working with young people, to have direct access to the owners to talk through new ideas and the authority to implement them, the ability to shine and excel in a demanding and open-ended role and the opportunity to work and live in a beautiful and amazing sporting environment it could be what you're looking for.

In the first instance, you would work alongside the existing owners and with a view to quickly being responsible for all day-to-day duties. By the end of year 1 we would expect to be having weekly board meetings to discuss the direction of travel and receive reports on how things are going and by years 2 to 3 we would be expecting to make the person a full business partner with equity within the company via lockstep or similar merit-based share agreement

It is important to point out that the major motivation for most of us is to live in a world-class ski-resort and in a beautiful mountain environment. We are all keen sports-people and all the staff, as well as the owners, participate daily in various sports that the area has to offer. Of course, we are here to make money and to run a company that has a healthy balance-sheet but at the same time our philosophy is rooted in sports and lifestyle
