"Save Our Travel Jobs" Campaign Launched

30 Oct 2020

Travel industry body Seasonal Businesses in Travel (SBiT) have launched a campaign to save seasonal travel jobs for British workers. They are seeking to gather support for a petition to persuade the government to negotiate an extension of the "Youth Mobility Scheme" with the European Union as part of the post-Brexit arrangements. This would allow young people to work for short periods in EU member countries without the need for a visa or work permit.

The "Youth Mobility Scheme" is part of the existing Tier 5 visa regime. SBiT report that 87% of the 25,000 British season workers who work across Europe each year are aged between 18-34 years. There is a campaign video that includes interviews with a wide range of resort workers who give an honest account of how much it means to them to be given the opportunity to work seasons abroad in this way and the importance of preserving this type of seasonal work opportunity.
