WTTC Estimate 3m Travel Jobs Could Go

24 Aug 2020

The  World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) estimate that three million jobs supported by travel and tourism could be at risk of being lost in a recently released  economic impact report outlining a "worst case scenario".

The report states that the the collapse of international travel could lead to £22 billion of lost income from GDP, representing some 9% of the UK economy.

According to the WTTC, some 197 million global jobs that are indirectly related to travel and tourism could be lost if barriers to international travel remain in place. Continued uncertainty around Covid-19 travel restrictions designed to halt a resurgence in coronavirus cases are causing holiday makers to opt for staycations instead of travelling abroad.
