What Will 2020/21 Ski Resorts Look Like?

What will be the impact of the pandemic on ski resorts in the Alps this winter? 

We round up some of the latest suggestions from articles speculating on the changes that you might find if you work a season in the Alps this winter.


The Federation Francaise des Clubs Alpins et de Montagne have published some detailed recommendations for the resumption of mountain activities.

There are 10 general recommendations for good practice on sites; using your own equipment and adapting your schedules to limit interactions between practitioners.

There are 6 practical sheets of recommendations for different activities : hiking, ski touring, climbing, mountaineering, via ferrata and canyoning.

InTheSnow have also published their own guide on how the Coronavirus might affect skiers next winter.

Some of the changes that you mightt see in the Alps next winter include:

  • Slower ski lifts with social spacing in queues and less capacity on gondolas, chairs and T bars
  • PPE worn on and off the slopes
  • Healthchecks on the slopes, e.g. thermal cameras
  • Contactless payments for lift passes
  • More takeaway dining on the slopes
  • Less apres ski!
